The Independent Individualized Curriculum
The student takes the “getting to know you” survey—this is where we get to know the student’s interests, goals and learning styles.
Each student selects a set of courses in one of the following categories:
- Social Science
- Math and if desired, an elective or two.
We create the curriculum based on transcript need and student interest. The student is provided with a weekly menu for each course, broken down into manageable daily components.
Each course will have its own binder, contain all necessary handouts, requirements and text books.
The student is given multiple options with which to present their work. For example, a student may opt to present a science assignment digitally (Prezi, PowerPoint), an English assignment in the form of a blog, a history assignment in the form of a documentary script with an accompanying short film.
Students, if they desire, can start their own webpage and feature their assignments as an interactive learning tool that promotes educational values and social responsibility in this emerging digital age.
Parents have access to Gradelink where they can check on student progress daily.
We encourage Emerson Academy students to be creative, proactive and industrious.
'Tis the good reader that makes the good book.'
